On August 12, 2021 the FDA issued a notice authorizing Pfizer and Moderna to be used for booster vaccines, only for immunocompromised individuals. Following this, the CPT Editorial Panel, a panel that is authorized by the American Medical Association to maintain these codes, has approved of and the AMA has announced that the booster CPT code sets are ready.
On August 18, 2021, the FDA released statements about the plans to start administering booster vaccines for all Americans who qualify.
Here are the codes used for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, including the third dose.
First dose – 0001A
Second dose – 0002A
Third dose – 0003A
First dose – 0011A
Second dose – 0012A
Third dose – 0013A
Currently, only these two vaccines have codes for the third dose.
